ABOUT strong technical and management background of Owner & Principal George Kachen

Owner and Principal, Dr. George Kachen has a strong technical and leadership background in lasers, non-linear optics, materials and nanotechnology.  He has leveraged this with his prior position as Intellectual Property Director at UMass Lowell to develop the ability to evaluate any technology from the standpoint of the value it can provide to potential customers.  This capability has proven to be invaluable for helping multiple high-tech companies become successful over the years. Furthermore, his far ranging expertise has enabled him to be a valuable contributor to Proposal Team Reviews and review panels for non-profits such as the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative and MassVentures with their SBIR Targeted Technologies (START) Program (see Opportunities).

While working at UMass Lowell, he was actively involved with a dedicated team of internal and external advisors in the early phases of a plan to help convert University generated intellectual property into start-ups to benefit faculty and the University--this has become know as the River Hawk New Venture Fund.

With his company GK ENTERPRISES LLC, Dr. Kachen has provided consulting services ranging from proposal prep to help with early stages of PERC (Printed Electronics Research Collaborative) at UMass Lowell.  In addition, he has been the Industrial Mentor for two MIT Post Docs on a NSF I-Corps™ Program.  Past and present organizations include:

Dr. Kachen holds a B.S. in Engineering Physics from the University of California, Berkeley, an M.S. in Nuclear Engineering (Fusion Option) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in Applied Science from University of California, Davis.  He has over twenty publications and presentations, mostly in peer-reviewed journals.
